Compare the full cost

An electricity quotation is more than a unit rate

Your annual usage, meter and start date affect the quotes available. We check those details and obtain options through our intermediary’s participating supplier panel. This is a panel comparison, rather than a whole-market search; we do not guarantee the lowest price.

Compare quotes using the same expected consumption and check what each includes. A fixed unit rate does not mean a fixed bill: your usage and any charges allowed to change under the contract still affect what you pay.

Illustrative rates, not a quote or savings promise. Totals exclude VAT and other applicable charges. For a real offer, also check commission, contract length and payment terms.
01Unit rates

Check the price per kWh. For day, night or other time bands, compare each rate with your usage in that band.

02Standing charges

The daily charge adds to your annual cost, even when usage is low. Include it alongside the unit rates.

03Other charges

Ask whether VAT, applicable levies, metering and capacity charges are included. Check which charges are fixed and which can change.

04Contract terms

Check the start date, contract length, payment method and notice requirements before agreeing.

Identify the supply

Start with the right electricity meter information

A recent bill usually shows your supplier, usage and Meter Point Administration Number (MPAN). The MPAN identifies the electricity supply point, not the meter itself. Check it matches the premises you want a quote for.

If there is a flat above your shop, check which supply point serves the business. Do not include a separate domestic meter in a business quotation.

Tell us about additional meters, different time-band rates or planned changes to your hours and equipment. Half-hourly data, where available, can help show when you use electricity. We will explain any authorisation needed to request data; you do not need to share account passwords.

Plan the next agreement

Keep renewal dates and moving dates separate

Renewing an existing contract? Check its end date and notice requirements first. You may be able to arrange a future start date, subject to supplier acceptance, but an advance quote does not let you leave your current fixed contract early.

Taking over a shop or café? Keep dated opening readings and notify the existing supplier of the change of occupier. Ask what rates apply before the new contract starts. A change of tenancy needs different checks from a renewal.

Contract ending soon? Use our business energy renewal guide to check dates and notice requirements.

Questions about your next contract

Can Draco compare a multi-rate electricity meter?

Tell us the meter arrangements and provide a recent bill showing the applicable time bands and consumption. We review the available supplier options against those details; product availability depends on the supply and supplier.

Does a lower electricity unit rate always mean a cheaper contract?

No. Standing charges, consumption at each time band and any additional charges can change the total. Compare the estimated cost on a consistent basis and read the terms.

Do I need to switch supplier?

You can consider available renewal and alternative supplier options. The decision depends on the offers available, your existing contract and your business requirements.
