Understand your quotation

Compare commercial gas on a consistent basis

Start with a full-year usage estimate, especially if you use gas for heating. Draco is an energy broker, not a gas supplier. We compare available quotes from our intermediary’s participating supplier panel using your supply details, unit rate and daily standing charge.

We explain the start date, contract length and payment terms alongside the price. Offers depend on your business circumstances and supplier acceptance. Our comparison does not cover the whole market or guarantee the lowest price.

01Annual consumption

Use a full-year estimate where possible. Heating demand and busy trading periods can make one month’s bill an unreliable guide to the year.

02Unit rate and daily charge

Compare the gas price per kWh and the standing charge together. A premises with low usage may be more sensitive to daily charges.

03What can change

Check whether taxes, levies or other permitted charges can change during the term. A fixed rate is not a fixed monthly bill.

04Payment and dates

Confirm the payment method, contract start and end dates, and any notice conditions. Your gas renewal date may differ from electricity.

Gas supply details

Your MPRN identifies the gas supply point

Your Meter Point Reference Number (MPRN) identifies the gas supply point. It is different from the meter serial number. Check your bill, or ask the supplier to confirm it and the supply address.

A gas meter records volume; the bill converts that into kWh of energy. Use annual kWh from your bills or confirmed by the supplier when comparing quotes. If there are several supply points, check each separately.

Renewals and new premises

Check the current arrangement before agreeing the next one

Check your contract confirmation or renewal letter for the end date and notice requirements. Already outside the fixed term? Ask the supplier to confirm your current rates and switching conditions before choosing the next contract.

When taking over premises, notify the supplier and keep dated opening meter readings. The previous occupier’s gas contract does not necessarily transfer to your business. We can help you understand the supplier’s change-of-tenancy process.

Contract ending soon? Use our business energy renewal guide to check dates and notice requirements.

Questions about your next contract

Can electricity and gas have different suppliers?

Yes. They are separate supplies and may have different suppliers, contract dates and payment terms. We review each agreement and can compare them at the same time.

Why does my gas meter reading differ from the kWh on the bill?

The meter records a volume of gas, which is converted into energy in kWh for billing. Use the kWh consumption stated on your bill or confirmed by the supplier when comparing contract costs.

Can I get a quotation without knowing my MPRN?

A recent bill and the supply address are useful starting points. We can help identify which supply details need confirming before a supplier quotation or contract can be arranged.
