Your trading pattern matters

Your kitchen keeps using energy after service ends

Fridges and freezers may run overnight. Cooking, extraction, lighting and dishwashing follow your service hours, while gas may also supply heating and hot water. Your own bills give a better starting point than assumptions about an average restaurant.

Tell us about lunch and evening services, quiet days, seasonal closures and equipment changes. If you are extending hours or switching from gas to electric cooking, last year’s consumption may need adjusting before comparing quotes.

Conceptual trading pattern, not measured data or fixed hours. Your equipment and opening times determine your usage.
01Refrigeration

Fridges and freezers may continue running when service ends. Check full-year electricity consumption rather than treating closed hours as zero usage.

02Kitchen equipment

Woks, ovens, fryers and dishwashers create different gas and electricity needs. Use meter and bill data to understand your own premises.

03Service times

If electricity is charged at more than one time-band rate, compare consumption in each band with your actual kitchen and trading hours.

04More than one site

Record each restaurant or takeaway’s supply points and end dates. Separate premises can require separate agreements even under the same business.

Quotation review

Compare restaurant energy quotes on annual cost

Compare electricity and gas separately, using consistent annual usage estimates. Include standing charges and other fees, then check the contract length and payment terms. A lower unit rate does not always mean a lower annual cost.

We obtain available quotes through our intermediary’s participating supplier panel and explain the differences. You choose and approve the contract. We do not compare the entire market or promise savings.

For each fuel, see how to compare business electricity quotes and review business gas supplier options.

Renewing or taking over premises

An opening date is different from a renewal date

For an existing restaurant, note the electricity and gas end dates separately. Check notice requirements and allow time to review offers. Starting early does not mean you need to commit straight away.

Taking over a takeaway or restaurant? Keep dated opening electricity and gas readings, tenancy evidence and business details. Notify each supplier of the change of occupier. Confirm when your business becomes responsible for each supply, the interim rates and the new contract start dates.

Questions about your next contract

Can Draco help a Chinese restaurant or takeaway?

Yes. We offer the same contract review and quotation support in English, Cantonese and Mandarin. You can discuss the business and ask for explanations in your preferred language.

Should I use one quiet month’s bill for a quotation?

A recent bill helps identify the account, but a full-year consumption estimate is more useful for comparing annual costs. Explain seasonal closures or equipment changes so assumptions can be reviewed.

What should I check when taking over a restaurant?

Confirm the takeover date, existing suppliers, opening readings, electricity MPAN and gas MPRN where available. Notify the suppliers of the change of occupier and ask which terms apply while a new agreement is arranged.
